The GTi Championship Mk2 Golf build thread
This may be a bit choppy as ive grabbed bits from different posts haha
So as many of you may know, Im trying to get into some real motorsport in the next few years and Ive known from day 1 it would be racing a MK2 Golf!
Their is 2 classes in the golf championship, Class 1 (1.8 8v) and class 2 (1.8 16v) GTis, Naturally the 8v is cheaper and i know the engine inside out after spending YEARS on them.
Well , i finally bit the bullet, and bought myself a IMMACULATE starting base!
it may not look much now, but their is alot of reasons why i went for this car.
Its not rotten and bodywork is near mint (paint faded yes but thats nothing)
Its not modified (so it hasnt been Hooned around everywhere)
its Non-Sunroof, meaning a rollcage fits in much easier and neater, and 3door non sunroof shells are like hens teeth!!
ive still got alot of work to do to get it where it needs to be, but ive got my buget, so. Let the madness begin!!
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Anway, after a rather "illegal" way of getting it home i set to work and did the first thing most people do when they buy a MK2 golf..... Polish it
A few days past, and being bored and very low on funds, i did what i seem to always do soon after i get a new motor
Made my first proper purchase for her the other day too. A 16v Subframe, with lower arms and anti roll bar, all poly bushed for £48 posted!!
But after it arrived i noticed the subframe was a bit rotten, so will be welding it up
Just had the Arms blasted and primed at work today, will gloss them tomorrow and then take the subframe and ARB in and do the same!
One funny thing though, this car will look like a bloody Harlequin underneath as i can only gloss things with what ever colour i have in my gun Otherwise i have to pay
Oh, and here is an "artists Impression" of the Paint scheme im thinking of doing ( please ignore the fact its been done on FM4, but its Livery editor is 2nd to none!
Just need to get my grubby mits on a GTi rear axle and front hubs/calipers/servo etc etc from a 16v now and then ill move onto my next job on the list
So yea, thats me for now!
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Cheers guys!
Progress is slow at the moment, still sourcing parts!
Little update!
Upon blasting the subframe, it has a slight rot problem, So got it cut out and patched up!
ARB blasted and painted
Subframe all painted up
Now for the funny bit
Now for a more tecchie bit!
Engine bay wiring harness removed!
Stripped
Well ive got the engine bay totally stripped out and now read for paint! but it then decided to chuck it down
Started Painting engine bay
Bought this to tow it!
but unfortunatley had to sell this
AGGGHHHHHHHH
And thats pretty much up to speed! lol

Re: The GTi Championship Mk2 Golf build thread
We all know about the VTCC Motorsports MK2 Golf GTi that I am building up for The Lubricant Consultancy Mk2 Golf GTI Championship with the help of Scott Underwood Auto Repairs and Tuning . For this, we have taken a Humble 1300 1988 MK2 Golf, and are currently transforming it into a fully fledged Race car, following a strict set of regulations along the way!
The Aim for the car, is to have it finished by Spring 2013 and hope to be in the championship by Late Summer/Early Autumn, Cadwell Park being our aim!
[small]Computerised Impression[/small]
We all know that Sponsorship is a major part of any team, Be it budget, Advertising, support etc etc and this is where YOU come in!
Here at VTCC Motorsports team, we are offering YOU the chance to help and [/b]SPONSOR[/b] our car by putting your GAMERTAG/PSN TAG or just your name on the Roof of our Golf GTi Race Car. This will cost £20 and your Tag will be on for the WHOLE SEASON!!!
Naturally this will cover the cost of the Vynal it will be made from and will help fund the car through its cruicial part of the build!
I will be ordering the Tags in bulk rather than 1 at a time so it may be month by month before each tag gets updated, but never fear, the plan is here! Each Tag will have its own individual photo which i will post onto Facebook/Twitter and Tag you in your photo. I will also start a thread in the VTCC Motorsports section on the VTCC Forum with the same pictures!
If you decide that you do want to do this, payment will be made VIA Paypal which will be linked from here and available once the car has been painted. It may take a small amount of time for your Tag to appear on the car, as i will be getting them made in batches, rather than 1 by 1 to save it becoming Expensive!
The Size will be roughly 6" Long and 2" tall ( ill make a demo and post a picture soon soon but its roughly the width of an iPhone and twice the length i think ) Starting at the back of the roof and working forwards!
VTCC Sponsorship Quick link
Paypal will be the method of payment, but if you would prefer to pay any other way please feel free to PM me!
My Paypal Email is:- Rustylaidler@googlemail.com or alternatively visit this link -- https://www.paypal.com/cgi-bin/webscr?cmd=_s-xclick&hosted_button_id=DS87MYGLUFQL8
Also their is a "Donate" button at the top of the Latest Posts/Portal Page!
Keep up to date with all progress on the CQR Club Forums ( www,CQRclub.co.uk) The VTCC Forums (www.VTCC.co.uk) or on Twitter ( @CQR_Rusty)
Thanks guys, I look forward to hearing any feedback and comments!
